🚒🔥 Dive Alert – New Wreck Added! 🔥🚒
Our Sept 10 evening charter will now be heading to the newly discovered Fireboat 17! 🌊⚓️
Built in 1893, she was the second fireboat owned by the City of Milwaukee and served until 1930, when she was dismantled and scuttled offshore. The wreck was relocated during NOAA bathymetric surveys in 2024 and confirmed by maritime archaeologists soon after.
Now divers have the chance to explore this historically significant find — with her steam engine and machinery still in place, there’s a lot to see on this wreck! Shipwreck Photos
Milwaukee Carferry (1929)
This 338-foot railroad car ferry rests at 130 feet, requiring advanced diving skills such as a PADI Advanced Open Water certification or technical certification for decompression dives. The wreck sits upright on a sand and muck bottom, with the superstructure about 100 feet east of the hull. The bow faces southwest, and the cargo of tubs, along with most of the railroad cars (one has three cars in it), are still located on the wreck. Some of the stern box cars are missing, with at least one lying sideways on the deck. The engines and propellers remain in place, making this a thrilling dive for experienced divers.
