July’s full moon is known as the Buck Moon, named for the time of year when bucks begin growing new antlers—a symbol of growth, strength, and summer adventure.
Join Shipwreck Explorers for a special evening charter as we celebrate the Buck Moon above and Milwaukee’s historic shipwreck below. As the moon rises over Lake Michigan, we’ll explore a world few people ever see: the Milwaukee Car Ferry resting quietly beneath the surface.

Milwaukee Car Ferry (1903)
The Milwaukee Car Ferry rests upright in about 130 feet of water, offering a deeper and more expansive wreck to explore. Its intact hull, towering bow, visible rail system, and two propellers make it one of the most iconic dives off Milwaukee, with cargo such as sinks still preserved inside the wreck. For properly trained divers, penetration into the engine room and crew quarters adds another layer of exploration.
- Dive Type:
- Advanced Recreational (no decompression)
- Technical (decompression) if one long dive
- Typical Depth: 90 to 125ft (27.4 to 38.1m)
- Required Certification:
- Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) for no-decompression dives
- Technical certification with appropriate training for decompression dives
Excellent for advanced open water or technical divers. Often dived as a two-tank trip or paired with Prins Willem V, Gillen Tug, or other nearby shipwrecks.
