Sinking Detail
Rammed broadside by coal-laden steel steamer WILLIAM HENRY MACK. MACK tried to keep her bow in the hole, but MITCHELL still sank in 7 minutes. Quick work saved most of her crew and all 7 passengers. MACK got most of the blame for the accident. The wreck discovered upside-down on the bottom in 1972.

Shipwreck Description
Steel freighter many divers overlooked she sits on the bottom upside down. Although the bottom of a ship is not very interesting, the cargo holds, engine room, quadrant room, and some cabins are accessible. Access to the engine room and quadrant room for the trained and experienced is through the starboard side gangway near the stern of the ship. The mooring is usually tied to the rudder.
