Rammed amidships by wooden lumber hooker JACK (see BOTHNIA), and sank in 210 feet of water in 3 minutes. Eyewitnesses said both vessels were running at high speed in the heavy fog, but both denied it. Survivors were picked up from life rafts by the small steamer M. SICKEN(qv). A very expensive salvage expedition failed to raise her in ’96.

Shipwreck Description
Found by John Steele May 1986.  She sits intact on a 45 degree list too port in 210 feet of water and is broken in half.  The anchors fell down of the ship and one of them is stuck by the bow in the bottom.  The wheel house landed next to the wreck with its double wheel still inside. Passed it one can see the yawl boat and a huge collision hole.  The ship broke in half from the impact.  The swim troughs through the cargo hold are relatively simple due to the ambient light present in the lakes these days.  The stern section offers penetration for the experienced and trained divers.  There are gauges, telegraph, electrical panel, milk jug, and water fountain still visible.  All the way at the stern is a large propeller partially buried in the mud.
